Amazon Product Photo Requirements (2025 Guide)
Amazon's image requirements are strict and non-negotiable. Get them wrong and your listing gets suppressed. Get them right and you rank higher, convert better, and avoid takedowns. Here's exactly what Amazon expects in 2025.
The main image requirements
These apply to your primary image — the first one buyers see:
- Background: Pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255)
- Product fills: At least 85% of the frame
- Minimum dimensions: 1000 px on the longest side
- Recommended dimensions: 2000 px or larger (enables zoom)
- Maximum file size: 10 MB
- Format: JPG, PNG, GIF, or TIFF
- Color mode: RGB or CMYK
- Watermarks: Not allowed
- Text overlays: Not allowed on the main image
- Logos: Not allowed unless they're part of the product itself
- Borders: Not allowed
- People: Not allowed (unless the person is the product itself, like clothing models)
Additional image requirements
Secondary images (2–9) have fewer restrictions:
- Can show alternative angles
- Can show product in use (lifestyle)
- Can include text, diagrams, and labels
- Can have colored backgrounds
- Must still be relevant to the product
- Minimum 1000 px on longest side
Why background matters so much
Amazon requires pure white because:
- It creates visual consistency across search results
- It makes the product the focus
- It's easier to compare products side-by-side
- It matches how buyers expect to see products
Off-white, grey, or barely-white backgrounds may get your listing suppressed. Amazon's automated checks are sensitive.
How to meet the pure white requirement
Two ways:
Method 1 — Shoot on pure white
Use a seamless white backdrop, soft lighting from front and sides, and a camera on a tripod. This works but requires setup.
Method 2 — Remove the background, then add pure white
Faster and more consistent:
- Remove the background with the AI background remover.
- Add a pure white background with the product photo editor.
- Set padding to 7.5% (product fills 85% of frame).
- Export at 2000×2000 as JPG.
This guarantees pixel-perfect white (#FFFFFF) every time.
Zoom-enabled image requirement
To enable zoom (which significantly improves conversion), Amazon requires:
- Minimum 1600 px on the longest side
- Recommended 2000 px
- Image must be sharp at 100% zoom
Shooting at 4000×4000 and downscaling to 2000×2000 produces sharper results than shooting at 2000×2000 directly.
Common rejection reasons
- Background isn't pure white. Even slight off-white gets rejected. Use the product photo editor with the white background preset to guarantee #FFFFFF.
- Product fills less than 85% of frame. Use the padding slider to control this precisely.
- Image is too small. Under 1000 px = rejected. Under 1600 px = no zoom. Aim for 2000 px.
- Watermark or logo present. Remove with the watermark remover (only for images you own).
- Text overlay. Save text for secondary images.
- Blurry or low quality. Use the photo enhancer to sharpen, but don't fake detail.
- Wrong format. CMYK TIFFs may fail; use RGB JPG.
Step-by-step workflow
- Shoot at 4000×4000. Even if Amazon shows 2000, starting larger gives you room to crop and sharpen.
- Remove background. Use AI background remover.
- Standardize. Use product photo editor with Amazon preset (2000×2000), white background, 7.5% padding.
- Compress. Use image compressor at JPG quality 85. Typical output: 200–500 KB.
- Verify. Open at 100% zoom and confirm sharpness. Check background is pure white (#FFFFFF in a color picker).
- Upload. Submit to Amazon Seller Central.
Secondary images — best practices
Your 6 secondary images can dramatically improve conversion. Best combinations:
- Lifestyle shot (product in use)
- Alternative angle
- Scale reference (product with common object)
- Detail shot (close-up of quality features)
- Infographic (product benefits with text)
- Comparison chart or size guide
These can have any background — clean design, lifestyle scenes, colored backgrounds. They just need to be relevant and high-quality.
Video requirements
Amazon also accepts product videos (up to 9 per listing). Requirements:
- MP4 or MOV format
- Minimum 1280×720 resolution
- Max 5 GB
- 5 seconds minimum, 30 minutes maximum
Pro tips
- Use the same background, padding, and lighting for every product in a category. Consistency increases brand trust.
- Test at thumbnail size. Amazon shows images small in search. Your product should still read clearly.
- Save your workflow. Once you find settings that work, apply them to every new product.
- Batch process. If you have many products, prepare one template with your branding and apply it consistently.
