• JPG / JPEG — most common format for photos
• PNG — lossless format, supports transparency
• WEBP — modern format, smaller than JPG at same quality
• GIF — animated or static (only first frame is processed for animated GIFs)
• BMP — bitmap, rare but supported

JPG

WEBP

25–35% smaller than JPG at the same quality. Supports transparency. Use for: any web use case where you don't need maximum compatibility.

GIF

Supported for input but not output. Only the first frame is processed.
