Fashion & Apparel Image Editing

Standardize fashion catalogs with clean product cutouts, consistent backgrounds, and exact marketplace dimensions. Free tools for fashion brands, retailers, and print-on-demand creators.

What fashion sellers need

  • Clean product cutouts. Fashion buyers expect to see the garment without distraction.
  • Consistent catalog styling. Same background, same padding, same aspect ratio across every SKU.
  • Flat-lay or on-model options. Both are supported by AI background removal.
  • Zoom-quality detail. Fabric texture, stitching, and pattern must be sharp at 2000 px.

Fashion-specific workflows

Flat-lay catalog

Clothing laid flat on a solid background. This is the easiest workflow:

  1. Shoot the garment flat on white or grey.
  2. Remove background with AI.
  3. Standardize to 2000×2000 with 8% padding using the product photo editor.
  4. Choose background color (white for Amazon, transparent for Shopify).

Mannequin or hanger shots

The AI handles the mannequin or hanger well, but you may need cleanup around thin straps, zippers, and lace edges.

On-model lifestyle shots

AI works well on full-body model shots. Complex fabric (sheer, textured, patterned) may need manual cleanup.

Lookbook composition

Multiple products in one image. Remove each background, then compose in your design tool.

Best practices for fashion photography

  • Shoot on white or grey. Makes AI removal more accurate and gives consistent results.
  • Steam garments. Wrinkles are more visible in product photos than in real life.
  • Shoot at 4000×4000. Detail and texture matter in fashion.
  • Show multiple angles. Front, back, side, detail shots. Six to nine images per product.
  • Consistent lighting. Same exposure, color temperature, and shadow across all products in a category.

Fabric considerations

Solid fabrics (cotton, denim, wool)

AI handles them perfectly. Clean edges.

Textured fabrics (knit, fur, lace)

Mostly good, but edges may need slight cleanup. Use the watermark remover paint mode to fix fringe.

Sheer fabrics (chiffon, organza)

Harder. AI may include parts of the background where the fabric is semi-transparent. Refine manually or accept the result if it's close enough.

Patterned fabrics (stripes, florals)

AI usually handles patterns well. Watch for pattern edges that may bleed into the removed area.

Metallic and reflective fabrics

Results vary. Sequin dresses and metallic garments can produce artifacts at edges.

Print-on-demand workflows

For T-shirt designs, mugs, and tote bags:

  1. Create or obtain the design at high resolution.
  2. Use the transparent PNG maker if the design is on a solid background.
  3. Ensure the PNG has true transparency (checkerboard pattern in a viewer).
  4. Upload to print-on-demand platforms (Printful, Printify, Redbubble).

Frequently asked questions

Can I use BG Remove for my entire catalog?

Yes. Process each product photo individually with the AI background remover and product photo editor. Batch processing is on our roadmap.

Does BG Remove handle transparent fabric correctly?

Partially. Sheer fabrics are challenging because the AI doesn't know what should be transparent in the fabric itself versus the background. Expect some manual cleanup.

Can I make product photos for Amazon Fashion?

Yes. Use the Amazon preset (2000×2000, white background, 85% fill) in the product photo editor.

Is the result good enough for print catalogs?

For print (300 DPI), shoot at very high resolution and inspect at 100% zoom. AI removal on high-res images may leave visible artifacts at print size. Use the watermark remover paint mode to refine edges.
