Transparent PNG Maker

Remove solid-color backgrounds locally and export a transparent PNG. Best for images with a clean, uniform backdrop (white, black, green screen). This tool does not use AI — it uses a color-tolerance algorithm that works instantly and never uploads a byte. For photographs with complex backgrounds, use the AI background remover.

How transparent PNG creation works

This tool removes pixels whose color is close to a target color. You choose the color (typically the color of the background), and pixels within a "tolerance" range of that color are made transparent. The "edge softness" slider applies partial transparency to pixels near the boundary, which reduces jagged edges.

Because the algorithm is simple and runs locally, it works instantly and requires no network connection. It's ideal for logos, illustrations, product shots on a clean backdrop, and green screen footage frames.

When this tool works well

  • Logos on a solid white or black background
  • Product photos shot on a seamless white backdrop
  • Icons and illustrations with flat color fills
  • Green-screen or blue-screen subjects
  • Simple diagrams and charts

When to use the AI background remover instead

  • Photographs of people, pets, or objects with a busy background
  • Images where the background has multiple colors
  • Photos with soft shadows and hair detail around the subject
  • Any image where the subject and background share similar colors

Tips for best results

  • Sample the color correctly. Use the "Pick from image" button to sample a typical background pixel — not the brightest or darkest pixel.
  • Start with a moderate tolerance. 20–40 works well for JPEG images, which have compression noise. Lower tolerances preserve more color but leave fringes. Higher tolerances remove more pixels but may eat into the subject.
  • Increase edge softness for photos. Photos have soft edges. Set softness to 30–50 to blend the transition.
  • Combine with the AI background remover for hard cases. Use AI first to isolate the main subject, then this tool to clean up any remaining fringe.

Frequently asked questions

Is this AI-powered?

No. This is a color-tolerance algorithm, not AI. It is fast, private, and works offline, but it can only remove a single background color (plus nearby shades). For complex backgrounds, use the AI background remover.

Does this upload my image?

No. Everything is processed locally in your browser.

Why is there a colored fringe around my subject?

JPEG compression introduces noise around edges, so pixels near the subject may be slightly different from the sampled background color. Try increasing the tolerance, or increase the edge softness to blend the fringe.

Can I remove multiple colors?

Not in a single pass with this tool. You can download the result and re-upload it to remove a second color.
