BG Remove for Real Estate
Real estate professionals use BG Remove to prepare property listings faster. Compress for MLS, resize for portals, enhance brightness, and standardize formats — all without expensive photo editing software.
Common real estate image tasks
MLS compression
MLS systems have strict file size limits (typically 5 MB or less per image). Use the image compressor to reduce photos to under 1 MB while keeping them sharp at full-screen viewing.
Brightening dark photos
Interior photos often come out too dark. Use the photo enhancer to increase brightness and contrast. The result looks more inviting and gets more clicks.
Resizing for different portals
Zillow, Realtor.com, Redfin, and MLS systems each have their own recommended dimensions. Use the image resizer to match each portal.
Rotating sideways photos
Phone cameras sometimes save photos in the wrong orientation. Use the image rotator to fix.
Best practices for real estate photography
- Shoot at 3000+ px. Even if the portal displays at 2000, starting larger allows for cropping.
- Use natural light. Shoot during the day with blinds open. Turn on interior lights.
- Use a tripod. Sharp photos convert better than slightly blurry ones.
- Shoot wide but not too wide. 16–24mm equivalent is ideal. Ultra-wide (10mm) distorts rooms.
- Straighten verticals. Walls should be vertical, not leaning. Use the image rotator's fine-angle slider for slight corrections.
Recommended dimensions by portal
- MLS (varies): 1024 × 768 or larger, typically 5 MB max
- Zillow: 1536 × 1152 minimum, up to 20 images per listing
- Realtor.com: 1024 × 768 minimum, up to 36 images
- Redfin: 1000 × 750 minimum
- Property website: 1920 × 1080 for hero images
Standard workflow
- Shoot each room from multiple angles.
- Enhance with the photo enhancer if brightness or contrast needs adjustment.
- Rotate any sideways photos.
- Resize for the target portal.
- Compress to under the file size limit.
- Upload to MLS and portals.
What BG Remove does NOT do
To be transparent: BG Remove does not remove objects, declutter rooms, or add virtual staging. For those advanced edits, you'll need dedicated real estate photo tools or a professional editing service. BG Remove handles image basics: brightness, contrast, dimensions, and compression.
Frequently asked questions
Can I remove backgrounds from real estate images?
Yes, if you need to extract a specific object (e.g., a piece of furniture for a marketing graphic). But for property photos, you usually don't want to remove backgrounds — you want to enhance them.
Does BG Remove store listing photos?
No. All tools except the AI background remover run entirely in your browser. Even for the background remover, images are not stored after processing.
Can I batch compress an entire listing's photos?
Currently one image at a time. Batch processing is on our roadmap.
Is BG Remove approved by any MLS?
BG Remove is a tool, not a certification. As long as your exported images meet the MLS requirements (dimensions, file size, format), they're acceptable — regardless of which tool you used.
