Image Rotator
Rotate images at any angle or flip them horizontally and vertically. Straighten crooked scans, correct tilted photos, or mirror an image for a specific orientation. All processing happens in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

How to rotate an image correctly
There are two common reasons to rotate an image: it was captured sideways (common with phone photos), or it needs to be tilted slightly to fix a crooked horizon. This tool handles both cases:
- 90-degree rotation swaps the image's width and height. Use the quick buttons for the four common orientations.
- Fine-angle rotation keeps the canvas size but adds transparent corners. Use the fine-angle slider to fix horizons up to ±180 degrees.
Flipping explained
Flipping mirrors the image. Horizontal flip reverses left and right (useful for fixing selfies that look "backwards"). Vertical flip reverses top and bottom. Flipping does not change file size or dimensions.
How rotation affects image quality
90-degree rotations and flips are lossless — every pixel is preserved exactly. Fine-angle rotations require interpolation because pixels must be resampled to land on the new grid. Our implementation uses the browser's high-quality smoothing so the result is sharp. Repeatedly rotating by small angles will progressively soften the image, so always start from the original.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my rotated image have transparent corners?
Rotating an image by a non-90-degree angle leaves triangular gaps at the corners. These gaps are transparent in PNG output. If you need a filled background, download as JPG (which fills with white) or use a photo editor to crop the rotated image.
Can I rotate an animated GIF?
Only the first frame of an animated GIF is rotated. The output is a static image.
Does rotating reduce quality?
90-degree rotations and flips are lossless. Fine-angle rotations apply bilinear filtering, which slightly softens the image but is imperceptible at typical viewing sizes.
Can I combine rotate and flip?
Yes. You can rotate and flip in any order. The preview updates immediately.
