Getting started
New to BG Remove? Start here:
- Step 1: Choose a tool from the tools page.
- Step 2: Upload an image by dragging it into the upload zone or clicking to browse.
- Step 3: Wait for processing (instant for browser tools, 5–15 seconds for AI background removal).
- Step 4: Download the result.
Common questions
What file formats are supported?
JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF, and BMP are accepted. Output is usually PNG (for transparency) or JPG (for photos).
What is the maximum file size?
The background remover accepts up to 10 MB. Browser-based tools accept up to 25 MB, but very large images may exceed device memory.
Do I need an account?
No. BG Remove works without any signup, login, or email verification.
Is it really free?
Yes. All tools are free with no watermark on downloads.
How do I remove a background?
Use the AI background remover. Upload your image, wait a few seconds, download the transparent PNG.
How do I resize an image?
Use the image resizer. Enter the width or height, or choose a preset for a social platform.
How do I compress an image?
Use the image compressor. Choose format (JPG, WEBP, PNG), set quality, download.
The background remover is not working
The background remover depends on our processing API. If the API is down, you'll see an error with a retry button. Try again in a few minutes. All other tools continue to work independently.
My image is too large
If your image is over 10 MB (for the background remover) or 25 MB (for browser tools), try resizing it first with the image resizer or compressing it with the image compressor.
Can I use the results commercially?
Yes. You own the images you upload and the results you download. See our Terms of Service for full details.
Do you store my images?
Browser tools never upload your images. The background remover uploads images to our API for processing, but does not store them after the response. See our Privacy Policy.
How do I report a bug?

Can I use BG Remove on my phone?
Yes. All tools are fully responsive and touch-friendly. They work on Android Chrome, iPhone Safari, and tablets.
Does it work offline?
Browser tools will continue to work after the page loads, even without internet. The background remover requires an active connection.
