About the color picker
This tool reads the exact pixel color at the point you click. It's useful for matching brand colors across documents, extracting the palette from a photograph, or sampling a UI color from a screenshot.
Color formats explained
HEX
Six hexadecimal digits representing red, green, and blue (two digits each). Used in CSS, SVG, and design tools. Format: #RRGGBB. Example: #FACC15.
RGB
Three integers from 0–255 representing red, green, and blue channels. The most universal color notation. Format: rgb(R, G, B). Example: rgb(250, 204, 21).
HSL
Hue (0–360°), saturation (0–100%), and lightness (0–100%). HSL is more intuitive for adjusting colors — moving lightness up makes a color lighter without changing its hue. Format: hsl(H, S%, L%). Example: hsl(48, 96%, 53%).
Tips for accurate color sampling
- Zoom in. For small UI elements, crop the image first with the image cropper so you can tap precisely.
- Avoid JPEG compression artifacts. JPEG introduces color noise, especially around edges. If you can, use a PNG or WEBP source.
- Sample multiple points. A single pixel may be slightly off. Click 3–4 times near the target and compare — the true color is usually the median.
- Use the swatch history. The tool stores your last 12 samples so you can compare colors side by side.
Frequently asked questions
Can I pick colors from any image format?
Yes. JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF, and BMP are all supported. Animated GIFs use the first frame only.
Does the tool upload my image?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Your image never leaves your device.
Why is the sampled color slightly different from what I see?
Two reasons. First, browsers apply color profile management, which can shift colors during rendering. Second, JPEG compression introduces pixel noise near edges. For the most accurate sample, use a PNG source and click a uniform region.
Can I pick a color from a webpage screenshot?
Yes. Take a screenshot, save it as PNG, and upload it here. The tool will sample the exact pixels of your screenshot, not the rendered browser page.
